Galerie Nathalie Obadia is pleased to welcome to Brussels a second exhibition of Michael Delucia's work, after the 2008 Solo Show which allowed the discovery of this young American artist born in 1978. This new exhibition is an opportunity to show for the first time in Europe the most recent works of the artist, drawings formed on computer and large painted wood panels.
At the crossroads of minimal art and the ready-made - we find the humor and reflexivity of Marcel Duchamp's works - Michael DeLucia's work is based on the appropriation and fetishization of a body of ordinary and industrial objects. Styrofoam, supermarket shopping carts, brushes, washing machines, and metal garbage cans are reactivated by the artist as materials that determine the form. The latter is first the object of a computer model before the pieces are drawn, cut out or assembled using a computer-controlled milling machine.
Michael DeLucia was born in Rochester, New York in 1978. He lives and works in Brooklyn. After studying design at Rhodes Island School of Design in 2001, he graduated from the Royal College of Art in London in 2004 in the sculpture category. A former assistant to Jeff Koons, Michael DeLucia distances himself from the Neo-Pop icon by proposing sculptures that metamorphose utilitarian objects into poetic and humorous apparitions, such as his most emblematic works: Community, Racecar, Primitive means, Untitled (grocery cart and mops), Roses, Hoses. Galerie Nathalie Obadia was the first to show Michael DeLucia's work in Europe with a solo exhibition in Brussels in 2008. Michael DeLucia's work has been exhibited at the MetroTech Center in Brooklyn and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit. Michael DeLucia is represented in the United States by Eleven Rivington Gallery.
