This contemporary art tour is presented in two parts: the first part from May 7, 2021; the second part will begin from October 20, 2021.
For two centuries, the figure of Napoleon has dominated not only European history, but also the general perception of the latter, in France but also in the rest of the world.
Genius for some, ogre for others, Napoleon has been the subject and object of hundreds of thousands of images, works of art, books and films, often committed, which have left a lasting mark on the history of art and culture, from Jacques-Louis David or Jean-Dominique Ingres to Larry Rivers or Marcel Broodthaers, from Louis Lumière or Abel Gance to Youssef Chahine or Alexander Sokourov.
Social and political transformations may have diminished its explicit place in contemporary thought, but it remains vivid because, beyond any value judgment, it has shaped a world of which we are, consciously or not, positively or negatively, the heirs.
